Latest Update About California Fire

As of January 24, 2025, California is grappling with multiple wildfires, particularly in the southern region. Here’s the latest information:

Hughes Fire:

Location: Near Castaic, north of Los Angeles.

Size: Approximately 10,396 acres burned.

Containment: 36% as of Thursday evening.

Impact: Mandatory evacuation orders affected over 50,000 residents. Sections of Interstate 5 were temporarily closed but have since reopened. No casualties or damaged structures have been reported so far.

Other Fires:

Palisades Fire: Located in Pacific Palisades, it has burned over 37,000 acres and is currently 72% contained.

Eaton Fire: Near Pasadena, this fire is 95% contained.

Sepulveda and Laguna Fires: These smaller fires erupted recently but were quickly contained.

Weather Outlook:

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning due to ongoing fire-prone weather conditions. However, forecasts predict up to 1.5 inches of rain over the weekend, which could aid firefighting efforts but also raises concerns about potential mudslides in areas affected by the fires.

Presidential Visit:

President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Los Angeles today to assess the wildfire damage. He is expected to meet with California Governor Gavin Newsom to discuss relief efforts. Governor Newsom has announced a $2.5 billion relief package for Los Angeles, aimed at aiding evacuations, housing survivors, and removing hazardous waste, with additional funds allocated for local government rebuilding and school district support.
